Julian, CA via Sunrise Highway

A 142 mile loop ride that takes you out of the city and up into the mountains for a visit to a historic 1870s gold rush mining town.  You will definitely want to plan to have lunch and some pie while in town.  Do a tour of the gold mine or visit the California Wolf Center just SE of town (californiawolfcenter.org).

Palomar Mountain with Lake Hodges, lake Wohlford and Lake Henshaw

A 161 mile loop ride that takes you out of the city, up Palomar Mountain and past three lakes. This route has some twisty roads, including South Grade Rd. on Palomar Mountain.  South Grade is a technical challenge as it has 21 switchbacks as you climb 2600 ft in 11 miles.  On your way back you might even see some dromedaries as you pass the Oasis Camel Dairy.

Friday Guided Group Ride

Pre-ride meeting location is the observation deck off the top floor of the parking garage.
Pre-ride meeting begins promptly at 8:45 am.  Staging for first group departure is targeted for 9am.

We will cross Downtown San Diego and hop onto CA-94 East to get out of the city.
Then we will take in the sights of rural Southeast San Diego County.

The first leg is 64 miles and takes us to Golden Acorn Casino & Travel Center (this is the only planned gas stop).

The second leg is 44 miles and takes to Viejas Outlet Center.  The Viejas Casino is across the street.
The plan is to allow 1.5 hours for lunch, shopping and/or gambling.

The return trip is 40 miles.  We start on rural roads, but will need to revisit CA-94 to re-cross the city areas.

For those that would like to spend longer at Viejas, the quickest way back to the hotel is usually via the freeway.
That route is 38 miles and takes about 35 minutes unless there is traffic.
